A Post-Hoc Addendum to Brouard's 'Growing through Writing:'

1. Just get it out! On scraps of paper if that's all you have, or your trusty iPad. Jot while the impulse hits. Ideas, feelings, thoughts can all be fleeting.
2. Publishing comes later after the catharsis, the structuring, and the polishing.
3.It's your universe...always tell it like you feel and see it. No harm, no foul.
4. We all carry multiple templates through life. They are channels for our experience. Observation, reflection, inflection, projection all operate all the time. The mission is to be in synch with oneself. then the words will flow.
5. Set a time, or when the spirits and/or demons awake you in the middle of the night :Get cracking and write write write...

Addendum Continued Re: 'Growing Tips for Writers:'

1.Stories everywhere. One of life's greatest truisms. On buses, trains, at home on the couch. There never has to be a dull moment.
2. We are all deep reservoirs. Fountains of timeless, endless experience. Billions of bytes.
3. Psychologists love contrasts, shades & variations, multiple meanings, metaphors, leaps of insight, ambivalences, variances, colors.
4.Yes wiring starts even earlier then we've ever realized. Children are in fact quite philosophical; their cognitive functions keep getting more sophisticated and pure.
5. Many truths, many stories. But we do need a core of who we are.

Thank you Christopher. I couldn't have expanded better myself. I particularly love your number 12. I believe that. People may think they read intellectually, but I don't think an issue becomes real for them unless their senses - and their emotions - are brought to bear.

That's why, if you're writing fiction, non-fiction or journalism, good writing requires giving readers real people and their stories. Then they'll care. The place to practise finding the scenes and characters that make up our lives is your journal.

"Expansions" Based on Ms. Richard's Exquisite Model:

1. Exposure, while seemingly loaded with risk, encourages growth and self-discovery.
2. Vulnerability is the opiate of the true writer. Exploration and depth are fueled by vulnerability.
3. Pleasure is always important. We all pay substantial prices for our sins...as we should!
4. Reflections and feelings color your day as no one else's.
5. Rules tools schools. It's your gig, bust out and push your envelop.
6. Structure and discipline are important for writers. And one writes (in the middle of the night) when the spirits have to be gratified.
7. Making sense of, comprehending, resolving, explaining, digesting are all fodder for the writer's journal.
8. Writing is like painting: an assessment of nature and people.
9. Writing requires the galvanization of all our human energies and forces.
10. Tone and language reveal all!
11. Human beings love stories and tales, proclamations, scenes, re-counts of experience and adventure.
12. Writing has to be juicy and savory. Readers must taste and feel your stories and scenes so that they can immerse themselves and lose themselves in order to grow and face challenges, pain, and loss. As well as pure joy.
