About Helen Moffett:

She wears many hats (as an author, editor, academic, activist and environmentalist), but of all them, editing is her favourite: “I have the best job in the world.”

Starting out as OUPSA’s academic editor in 1994, she’s had the opportunity to work with brilliant manuscripts and exciting projects around the world, with a focus on the African continent’s brightest literary and academic writers. Some of these include Lauren Beukes, Zakes Mda, Ivan Vladislavić, Sarah Lotz, Diane Awerbuck, Gabeba Baderoon, Ade Adebajo, Nadia Davids, Jacqui L’Ange, Nechama Brodie, Fiona Snyckers, Petina Gappah, Elinor Sisulu, Jamala Safari, Nick Mulgrew, Liesl Jobson, Adam Habib, Amina Mama, Barbara Boswell, Joanne Joseph, Bongani Kona, Sindiwe Magona, Siphiwe Gloria Ndlovu, and many more.

She’s also the Mentoring Editor for the project, and an author and editor for the open-access children’s literature NPO .

She’s been on the other side of the desk as an author as well: her publications range from academic works to university textbooks to poetry collections, along with commercial fiction, notably the A Girl Walks In choose-your-own-erotic-adventure trilogy (co-written with Sarah Lotz and Paige Nick under the nom de plume Helena S. Paige). These have been translated into twenty-one languages, including Catalan and traditional Mandarin. Her debut novel, Charlotte, a Pride and Prejudice sequel, was published by Bonnier UK in 2020, and she is currently (trying to) complete the follow-up.
