Penny Castle, for her poignant love story:

“For the briefest of moments the street light restored you to exuberant good health. The curtain shifted and I lost you again.”

Our two runners-up are…

Florence Onyango:

“No I do not love you, I love us. That for me is enough.”

Jane Meenehan:

“You smile at me. My heart skips, my stomach flips. My toes curl, my fingers go numb. I love you, but my body seems to love you more!”

All three intrigued, moved and delighted us, which is what the best stories should do.
