A rare writing weekend: A poem from All About Writing alumnus Sue Lesser
Our Stow-on-the-Wold weekend writing workshop was, as Sue Lesser’s poem conveys, a rare weekend indeed.
A Rare Weekend
A wondrous weekend,
Bordering dreamlike…
After tiring drive,
Conversation floated like intellectual cloud
I forced to focus,
Strove-struggled for sense
Strained to speak.
I was gate-crasher at the party,
Terrified to write…
But, as hours happened, faces familiarised,
Cake and coffee motivated,
Invisible links fabricated:
A passion for perfection,
A rapture in writing
A community in creating …
No longer awkward aspirants,
We were writers:
Feeding on feedback and facilitation
Stretching our skills
Giving birth to our work …
Though this no solo labour,
This was society,
Something else,
Something rare,
Something special!
On homecoming-reflection
I sense impression
Of sojourn with literary spirits,
In parallel, perhaps paranormal, world …
But my writing remains,
Testament to strange, amazing break
And writing is ever written …
