In Tips for Writers, Writing Challenge, Writing Competitions, Writing Exercises

All About Writing’s latest flash fiction challenge offers the winner a literary assessment on 5000 words of writing worth R 2750 / £ 150 or a voucher to the same value to use on one of our courses or programmes.

Write a scene in which everything seems normal at first,
but your character slowly starts to realise things are not quite right.
This should be revealed with subtlety.

Write no more than 250 words. Submit your entry here or paste your entry into the form below by midnight on 30 November 2022.

Writing Tips:

    1. Try to be a little oblique. Don’t be obvious or clichéd.
    2. Don’t be predictable. Try to surprise us.
    3. Allow the reader to slowly experience the realisation with your character.
    4. Use all the senses to engage the reader in the experience.
